yaleootb:
OOTB congratulates our own Jon Bittner (‘07) for making the Forbes 30 Under 30 list! Jon co-founded Splitwise with another OOTBite, Ryan Laughlin (‘12) as a way to help friends painlessly track shared expenses, and to make sure that everybody gets paid back.
Congrats to Jon, OOTB’s rockstar physicist/entrepreneur, for this amazing accomplishment, and also to Ryan...

Ideas: How do they work?
For the past 8 months or so I’ve been building a spreadsheet full of web project ideas. The one thing they all have in common is that they fit needs of my own — problems that I have been meaning to solve or apps that I know I would use. For any of these I might only need a couple weekends to produce a working prototype, but to truly see an idea through might take months. Because of...

Yesterday...
…I stopped by Barnes & Noble to grab a book on my to-read list, and was utterly disappointed to see that there were more bookcases dedicated to “Paranormal Romance” than to the neighboring “Teen” and “Teen Fantasy” sections combined.
C’mon people!

10K Apart →
rofreg:
An interesting challenge: build a fully-functional, cross-browser web app in less than 10KB. I am all over this.
(Also, a brilliant move by Microsoft - this is a very smart way for IE9 to begin winning its way into the HTML5 crowd.)
This actually sounds quite fun. First step: coming up with a good idea…

Book of the Month Club meets video games. A compelling idea, though the message board format is a slight turnoff for me.

BP Doomsday? →
grantjonah:
Well, that sucks.
Um… the only two sources having anything to do with the current BP blowout are:
An article pointing out unusually high amounts of methane near the blowout which can potentially cause oxygen-depleted dead zones in which normal marine life cannot exist. So, that’s really a cause for concern, but not on the scale of “explosions and...

Dear ,
You were great. I mean really. You were a tiny skitter across the floor at 4am that left us wholly confused and buzzing with adrenaline. Not an easy thing to accomplish.
The cat still yearns for you. She paces back and forth, sniffing at all of your favorite corners and crevices. We try to tell her you are gone, but she just doesn’t believe us. Perhaps you aren’t gone. Perhaps...

You Are Not So Smart: Confirmation Bias →
People who already supported Obama were the same people buying books which painted him in a positive light. People who already disliked Obama were the ones buying books painting him in a negative light.
Just like with pundits, people weren’t buying books for the information, they were buying them for the confirmation.
